This week we’re joining forces with NGOs and campaigners from all corners of the world, calling on the World Bank Group to end its financing of factory farms.

Shaping food systems

As part of the Stop Financing Factory farming coalition, we’re holding a Global Day of Action – spanning across over twenty countries – timed to coincide with the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.

This is a major moment for financial institutions, who are making public funding decisions right now that will shape food systems for decades to come.

Funding devastation

The impacts of factory farming on animals, people and the planet are devastating.

Despite this, the World Bank Group continues to invest heavily in intensive animal agriculture. Between 2023 and 2024 alone, it invested $1.4 billion in industrial livestock farming.

What’s more, its private sector arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), approved 38 industrial livestock projects worth around $2 billion between 2020 and 2025, according to recent analysis.

Leading the charge

Public money should be funding solutions, not putting our future under threat.

That’s why the Stop Financing Factory Farming coalition is leading the charge in asking the World Bank Group to redirect investment to agroecological, climate-aligned food systems. These can feed the world without exploiting animals and the planet.

Actions on the day included rallies, demonstrations and creative visual installations exposing the true costs of factory farming and calling out the contradiction at the heart of the World Bank’s approach.

Action also took place online, flooding World Bank social media channels with a clear and simple message: it’s time to invest in a better food system.
