Sainsbury’s bans Foie Gras

1 December 2006

CIWF’s current campaign has highlighted the horrors of foie gras production, where ducks and geese are force-fed to produce a fatty liver.

In response to concerns about the welfare issues associated with foie gras production, Sainsburys has removed all foie gras from its stores. Sainsbury’s Integrity Manager, Sue Lockhart, said: ‘We have no intention of re-stocking foie gras in any Sainsbury's store in the future.’

CIWF has lobbied Sainsbury’s and all other major UK food retailers for more than five years to improve farm animal welfare and more information can be found in our Supermarket Survey
