Dr Mamphela Ramphele

A founder of the Black Consciousness Movement along with Steve Biko, Dr Ramphele has doctorates in medicine and social anthropology and 10 honorary degrees. She has published widely on poverty alleviation. In 1996 she became Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, and was made the managing director for human development at the World Bank. She chairs a black economic empowerment company and has founded the Citizens Movement for Social Change.
